History
UNISSULA was officially established in September 1967 under the name Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam Sultan Agung. It began its journey as a faculty within the Semarang Islamic University. In 1981,
by the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, the Faculty of Islamic Teaching (FITK) became the Institute of Islamic Religion Sultan Agung (IAIN Sultan Agung). In 2001, by
the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, IAIN Sultan Agung was transformed into Universitas Islam Sultan Agung.
