History

Mississippi Valley State University, also known as MVSU, was founded in 1950 as a historically black college. It initially started as a branch of Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College. In 1964, it gained independent status as Mississippi Valley State College and eventually achieved university status in 1974.
